TNHornMedia.com is thrilled to announce the appointment of Mark Gorman as the new mayor of Brentwood during the May 8 commission meeting, succeeding Rhea Little, who served two successful terms in office.

Mark Gorman's journey in public service began when he was elected as a commissioner in 2013, and since then, he has made significant contributions to the growth and development of Brentwood. Over the years, Gorman has served as the vice mayor and represented the city as a dedicated member of the Brentwood City Planning Commission.

Expressing gratitude for his new role, Mayor Gorman shared his appreciation with the commissioners, saying, "Thank you to the commissioners for electing me to serve as mayor of the great City of Brentwood. Special thanks to (Commissioners) Anne Dunn and Regina Smithson, God rest her soul, who appointed me to the Planning Commission 19 years ago. That's what got this all started and got the ball rolling."

During the same meeting, Commissioner Ken Travis was appointed as the vice mayor, joining Mayor Gorman in leading the city's progress. Commissioner Nelson Andrews had previously served as the vice mayor.

Ken Travis, who joined the commission in 2015 and was recently reelected during the city's general election, brings valuable experience and a strong commitment to serving the community.

As Brentwood moves forward under the leadership of Mayor Mark Gorman and Vice Mayor Ken Travis, TNHornMedia.com extends its support and looks forward to highlighting the accomplishments and initiatives that will shape the city's future.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (TNHornMedia.com) — As August approaches, the citizens of Nashville eagerly anticipate the Metropolitan General Election, a pivotal event in determining the city's future leadership.

With Mayor John Cooper opting not to seek re-election, the race for the 10th mayor of Metro Nashville is wide open, presenting an array of candidates vying for the position.

To gain insight into the candidates' perspectives, TNHornMedia.com distributed questionnaires to each mayoral hopeful, focusing on Music City's most pressing issues. Among the topics covered were the candidates' views on Nashville's most significant challenge and their proposed solutions.

Listed below are the responses provided by the candidates in alphabetical order, addressing the question: What do you believe is the biggest issue affecting Nashville, and how would you plan to address it?

Natisha Brooks: "The biggest issue affecting Nashville is mental health. As the 'Bible Belt' of the South, our city is adorned with numerous churches. However, we need to ensure that mental health clinics are just as accessible, providing a 'Safe Place' for individuals battling depression. Collaborating with the Metropolitan Davidson County School Board, I will work towards establishing safe spaces within our schools for students. Furthermore, as Mayor, I will prioritize cooperation with the Department of Human Services (DHS), foster care, and adoption agencies to expedite the placement of children in nurturing homes. Addressing the mental health crisis involves addressing the lack of love and stability in children's lives, as this can lead to lifelong struggles with depression. Creating a loving home environment is essential for children's well-being and education."

Fran Bush: "One of Nashville's most pressing issues is affordable housing. The city's rapid growth has resulted in increased living costs, making it challenging for residents to find affordable housing that meets their needs. This scarcity of affordable options leads to displacement, homelessness, and other adverse consequences. Another significant challenge we face is transportation. The growing congestion on our roads and highways translates to lengthy commutes and traffic delays for commuters. To alleviate these issues, I propose improving transportation options, such as expanding our bus system and developing new light rail lines. By investing in transportation infrastructure, we can reduce traffic congestion and enhance mobility for Nashville's residents. Both of these issues are addressed comprehensively in my responses to questions 1 and 2."

As the Metropolitan General Election draws closer, the citizens of Nashville will carefully consider the viewpoints and proposals put forth by the mayoral candidates. TNHornMedia.com remains dedicated to providing comprehensive coverage of the election, ensuring that the community is informed and engaged in the democratic process.
